Wayne County Airport Authority (WCAA), operator of Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW) and Willow Run Airport (YIP), hopes to engage the talent and resources of more local, small businesses through a Small Business Opportunity Forum on February 23, 2010 from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the L.C. Smith Building (former check-in lobby area) at DTW. The Forum will focus on becoming a WCAA certified Small Business Enterprise (SBE) as well as upcoming contract opportunities and proposal development techniques for SBEs.
“The Airport Authority’s mission includes creating economic vitality in the region we serve; and our commitment to Small Business Enterprises is a high priority for our organization,” said WCAA CEO Lester Robinson. “We are passionate about certifying more small businesses and having them participate in Airport Authority business opportunities.”
The Small Business Opportunity Forum will kick-off with a continental breakfast followed by testimonials from small businesses that have experienced success in providing goods and services to WCAA. Several WCAA division representatives will also share information about anticipated contract opportunities with the Airport Authority.
From 10:00 a.m. to Noon, participants will have a chance to network with key WCAA staff members. Additionally, outside organizations that offer business support services such as insurance, bonding and financing/lending will also be in attendance. The Forum will conclude with a workshop that includes tips on preparing quality proposals.
This Small Business Opportunity Forum builds on the Airport Authority’s established Small Business Enterprise Program launched in 2008. Small businesses with headquarters in Macomb, Oakland, Washtenaw or Wayne counties are eligible to become WCAA SBE certified. Details regarding this program can be found online at http://www.metroairport.com/business/SBEProgram.asp.
Space is limited, so RSVPs are encouraged by Feb. 12. Complimentary parking will be provided to participants who RSVP in advance.
