RSS Feed Versus Search Versus Referers Versus Direct Access

Posted on October 8, 2005

Hi!

When you write a blog that is somehow related to your business, it is really important to have a good exposure over your subjects. And in order to have good exposure, you have to be sure your readers will “hear” about you.

So, how do people reach your blog?

  • Search engines
  • RSS Feeds
  • Referrers
  • Direct access

Let’s have a look at the statistics (or at least how my readers get to me)

RSS Feed
Something like 80% of my readers come from RSS Feeds. Which is good if you have a RSS enabled blog, but also you should consider that these people are actually keeping track of many other blogs with the help of the RSS. This might mean they have a good interest in your blog, but they might not read it for real.

Search - 3%

Here, we are talking mostly about good ol’ search engines that crawl your blog just like any other site. Here is what happens with these:

search.yahoo.com 42,9 %
technorati.com 37,0 %
google.com 5,8 %

But more importantly is to find out what do people really look for when reaching your blog:

advantages and disadvantages of entrepreneurship
differences between entrepreneur & businessman

how to make money on line

This might give you an insightful image of the people interest and help you shape the future subjects.

Referers 2%
Here I don’t have much to say, if people are going to like your blog, they are going to link to it:

business-opportunities.biz 27,0 %
microisv.com 20,0 %
bloglines.com 7,2 %

sellme.ru 5,4 %
interaktonline.com 5,0 %

Direct access - 15%
This is the most interesting one. These are people that really enjoyed your blog and they have bookmarked you - they are checking your site from time to time. They are your friends.
