Quit your job and you will be forgotten

Posted on 06 October 2005

Is not really a surprise. When I quit my older job, some half an year ago, I was somehow sure that some of the friendship relations that I had with my co workers will go away. So let’s see how this gradually evolved in the last 6-7 months.

First 2-3 months were the most difficult ones. I had to adjust my thinking to a new organization. I had nobody to rely on my new job, new faces all over. The guys from the old company were quite active, we were exchanging e-mails, jokes and everything.

And then, summer came. Great silence, but we had the chance to get together few times, some parties, some holidays, so I would say this period was still ok.

Last 2 months. Nothing. No news. No connection. No time. I just realized that all my efforts, all my work and all my good will when working with the older company does not mean anything on the long term. I’m just a guy who worked there, and now it does not matter, there are other guys working there now, and you are a replaceable part in a social mechanism.

I think that you are too categoric about the “repleaceable part in a social mechanism”. I think that you will remembered in a compnay by the good deeds you have done and not by your professional skills.
The professional skills are the reason for which you are hired but your interpersonal skills are the ones that makes you stand out from the crowd of employees.
I am ashamed to say that I am one of those who did forgot about you, but as a change I will be in the same situation as you (I have changed my job recently).
Or maybe we will persuade the guys from InterAKT to develop a collaboration tool so that we could stay in touch more easier.
