Job hunting as free PR
Posted on January 23, 2006
As I decided to change my regular 9 to 5 job and being kind of Internet addicted, I’ve naturally turned to a job portal. I’ve started with some simple searches for account management jobs in software - which is probably what I do best. As I wasn’t looking for a special software area, I did some kind of general search. Amongst the job announcements I found several that were placed by job hunting companies, where you couldn’t actually say for what exact company the announcement is.
Having a Job hunting agency to look for people is really a good sign that the hiring company understands the value of the human resources and is ready to invest some money and pay for professional services. So I’ve started to really have a look at their job announcements which lead me to an account management job, that really fitted my skills and interests. So far, so good. Until on the list line I’ve read something like: “The hiring company creates web development tools for programmers in over 80 countries”. Which actually sounded very familiar, because one year ago I used to work for a company that develops tools for Web Programmers. Huh. Now, got on the messenger with a sales guy from the company and yes…the announcement was from my previous job
Ok, that’s not really important, but this one is: just by adding a simple phrase to the job announcement, the company actually did a very good PR, because anybody coming in contact with them through this announcement will know that they do web development tools for programmers in 80 countries. And is free of charge…they didn’t pay anything for it. Good for them!

Actually, we paid for the hunting process, and got the advertising as a side effect :). More - because the sales post was issued by the head-hunters, the company name wasn’t actually linked with the text.
However - I’m glad to see that you’ve spotted our ad

Hi,
I know that you have paid for the add and that your company name wasn’t linked firectly to your company, but every job candidate that will finally get in contact with you will know that you do web development tools for programmers in 80 countries. And that’s somehing you get for free because you paid for the job hunting service and not the advertising.
