How to start a business from your corporate cube: a response
Posted on September 12, 2007
I’ve came across Penelope Trunk’s article about starting a side business while working for the MAN. I’m a part time entrepreneur - I should know something about How to start a business from your corporate cube . Actually I wanted to post a comment there saying that some of the points can be considered on the dark side and could get you into trouble, but noticing a long list of comments I decided to make the reply on my own blog. I have my doubts on the following subjects:
- 4. Get on a stupid project at work.
First of all, I don’t like working on stupid projects. I simply hate it, and working on too many would mean a sure exit path for me from the job at the MAN. And secondly, working on interesting/demanding projects at the regular job keeps me focused and gives me ideas and knowledge about doing these things. I might not know how to make a business plan, but if I’m working hard to make one for my 9 to 5 job, it means I will be able to make one for my side business as well.
- 3. Don’t have guilt.
I’ve never ever used my time at the 9 to 5 job for doing my Entrepreneurship stuff. Doing something else would mean lost focus and poor results. If your not doing your 9 to 5 job so great, in time, you will get a bad feeling about your ability to do excellent things. And that will affect your self confidence. You are not so good at your job because your mind is elsewhere, you’re not so good at your side thing because you don’t have enough time, and slowly you will get to a depression period on your life.
But I do agree on most of the other points.

I certainly agree with your opinion regarding that articles. The important is we should learn to focus and manage our priority.
