How much of the Internet is Junk?

Posted on March 7, 2005

While doing some research for the company I’m working for, I came to realize that sites have a short life after all.

My assignment was to review some potential partners list for North America, Asia Australia and Middle East. The partners were all having Internet related business, but apart from this element they were covering a large activities area, from ISP to Solution Integrators or Vars. Different goals, different organizations, different everything. But almost 40% of my sites list were unavailable or having obsolete content which amazed me…

How can the virtual society (in such a “non-expensive” environment like Internet) have such a high rate of causalities? Accordingly to the latest Netcraft survey some 10 millions sites emerged since the beginning of last year. But how many of them are already dead?
