Entrepreneurship: is this going to work for me?
Posted on December 22, 2005
I read Dane Carlson’s blog The Business Opportunities Weblog almost every day. I read it to find out what other people are saying about Entrepreneurship or to find out about the latest business ideas. I usually start from Dane’s blog and I follow his Recommended Weblogs links or simply go by the categories. Each day, I look for a different category, accordingly to my mood: Ecommerce, Entrepreneurial Lifestyle, or Sales. Finding out what other entrepreneurs are saying is both educative and interesting - you have it all there.
But at a closer look, I believe I’m reading Entrepreneurship blogs for some other, more hidden and personal reasons. Basically, I just want to know if owning a company, some products, having clients is going to work for me. Reading some other fellows blogs its somehow reassuring. If they did it, I should be able to do it. And I read some more. Some are having IT businesses, some are having restaurants or something. They did it, and it feels good to know that they did it.
But no business is like other. You can’t say that their success will apply to you. You don’t really know what they have to stand up. What do you have? But its still reassuring to read their blogs.
Business education (including blog reading) is probably one of the most important aspects of any modern small size entrepreneur. Knowledge about the business is a small step in Entrepreneurship, you also need some luck, some money to invest and a lot of efforts. Its like preparing for the marathon. You don’t start directly by running 20 miles a day. You start by jogging. You have to train yourself.
