Entrepreneurship changes reality

Posted on 30 March 2008

I’ve been travelling lately to countries that are supposed to be the engine and driving forces of the Worldwide economy – USA and Germany. And although most of the entrepreneurship stories, knowledge and money come from well developed countries, I would say that entrepreneurship is really dimmed over there. While in US, I couldn’t see any big industrial developments (of course, I didn’t travel so much there after-all). And while in Germany, no new houses, no road constructions no nothing. That supports my older theory that is actually harder to be entrepreneurial in Germany than in Romania, simply because they already have most of the things in demand.

But if you want to see real entrepreneurship development, come for example in Romania (which is by the way one of the lowest entrepreneurial countries and you will see amazing developments) Like for example, over the past 5 years, I have around 6 new houses and a block of flats on my street alone – usually done by constructors and sold. And 2 blocks away, we had a clothing factory – now, they built a Penny Market in the yard. About 1 mile away, I have a luxury car dealer (you will be amazed but luxury here means Maserati, Ferrari and stuff like that, Porsche Cayenne is pocket change). Of course, the rest of the cars are cheap and old, so there is no in between. And they are going to build the biggest mall in South Eastern Europe just 5 miles from here.

Anyway. Let’s come back to the subject. Entrepreneurship changes reality. That’s very easy to spot in a country like Romania that is now in fast forward development. Things that you know can be dramatically changed by entrepreneurship. Is not about money, investments and vision. Is about the entire mix of things that start from finding a need and a solution for it.

I’m sure that most of the entrepreneurs don’t think about changing the reality when they start a business, but if you take the entire entrepreneurship results as a sole force, you will see that every small entrepreneurs is a small component from a much larger mechanism. So if you ever dreamed about being a president and change the world, being a big actor and change the world (most people while teens think they are going to change the world) there is a much simpler and realistic way to change the World. Being an entrepreneur.

  1. Hey,

I’m from the United States and I found this post very interesting. I feel the US is very economically developed compared to other countries and the growth you’re seeing now is what we saw in the US back in the 1960’s to 1980’s. I do feel that entrepreneurship improves the society as a whole. The basis is finding a hole or need in the market and then filling that need with a focused business. Entrepreneurship promotes specialization, new technology, increased value, etc. Btw, I like your blog. I just started one at

  2. Crisitan – I liked your post on TPE. And you have given me new perspective on Romania.

    Hi Chase,

For sure it’s interesting to see how business and life in general can be totally different in the same time depending on the geographical location.
