Entrepreneurship stress follow up

Posted on 26 September 2007

After my initial post on Entrepreneurship stress I received a quite nice feedback from my readers and I’ve finally ended up on doing an interview with Jamie Lentzner from JPD Mom – Running a business while raising a family – priceless to find out about her entrepreneurship story.

Jamie has a very interesting article on Entrepreneurship stress – what she calls the Stress Monster : “This year, uh – let’s just say Mr. Stress Monster has parked his big ol’ Stress ass on my couch, he is watching TV, eating Cheetos, drinking beer, making a royal mess, and does not seem to be leaving anytime soon – I think he showed up around the beginning of June. The worst part of it is that sometimes he actually wakes me up in the middle of the night to discuss things (okay, truth be told he does it EVERY night around 3:00 a.m.) No, I swear I think he has moved in permanently….”

As my company is now in its third year, 2007 seems to be by far the most stressful year. I think most people willing to start a business are most afraid of the start – finding the first customers, having the first deals and products shipped. But my reality tells me that things are getting stressful when…things start to mean something for real. So in a way it becomes more stressful as it becomes more successful. If in the begining you are probably risking some time, some money and some pride, as you get along you have employees, you have contracts, customers to satisfy, bills to pay and a brand to build and maintain.

You probably think that as you get to learn about things and get experience along the way, the stress sources will go away. But if you are a real entrepreneur, once you have mastered the way to do the things and get some stress relief you will embarc to the next more complicated and more stressful challenge. And the bet if rising along the way, all the time.

Of course, internet has plenty of resources on dealing with office stress. I’ve picked this one: Don’t mess with stress Stress-busters as I liked the stress balls in the picture :)

  1. Uh, well I wish I could say it gets better. I say if you can not handle stress then do NOT go into business for yourself. Good luck – I don’t know when I won’t be stressed…..but I hope it is soon!
