Singapore based corporate service agency, Rikvin Consultancy recently unveiled a How to Guide detailing the corporate bank account opening procedure on its website. Rolling out the guide, Satish Bakhda of Rikvin said, “as an international financial center the companies and businesses here have a plethora of choices, banks here provide comprehensive enterprise banking solutions and the banks are constantly reviewing the service portfolio to identify gaps and roll out products that match the needs of every type of potential customer segments in the market. The new initiative of DBS Bank is timely, as more young entrepreneurs are venturing out”

In a bid to build its small and medium enterprise franchise in the Asian region, DBS Bank has launched Entrepreneur’s Account for Start-ups. It is targeted at newly established businesses that are less than six months old. The initiative will give some of the 50,000 businesses set up each year in Singapore, banking services at a lower cost as well as other value-added benefits such as lower initial minimum deposit and waivers of subscription fees on several services.

The spirit of entrepreneurship is growing in Singapore and the new breed of entrepreneurs is comprised of much younger people. Global University Entrepreneurial Spirit Students’ Survey 2008 showed that 81.4% Singapore Students are keen on entrepreneurship. This is an indication of the tides turning in favor of entrepreneurship, as the mindset is changing. Organizations and educational institutions are doing their part by inspiring the young by having mentorship programs and awards to groom and recognize the achievers in this area.

Singapore has recognized the need for developing a strong array of local companies besides attracting multinationals to its shore. Singapore government is keen to promote entrepreneurship and starts by spotting them early and grooming them right. For example, SPRING has a scheme called, Young Entrepreneurs Scheme for Start-ups (YES! Schools), which provides schools with grants of up to S$100,000, to put in place a comprehensive & structured entrepreneurship learning programme, for their students. Another scheme, – Young Entrepreneurs Scheme for Start-ups (YES! Start-ups) – provides funding support of up to S$50,000 for youths to set up their innovative startup.

About Rikvin:
Rikvin offers business solutions and has successfully helped hundreds of foreign and local entrepreneurs form a Singapore company. The firm’s specialties include company registration, offshore company setup, incorporation and providing professional corporate services.

Represented by its business consultant, Asiabizsetup takes delight on promoting its attractive package of incorporating a company with added service of facilitating the application for Singapore Entrepreneur pass.
“The incorporation package is specifically geared towards foreign entrepreneurs or investors who wish to successfully setup or expand their business and relocate here in Singapore.”
“First, we incorporate their company through our nominee director service,” elucidates Asiabizsetup indicating that a nominee director service is necessary as having a resident director is among the basic requirements in forming a company based on Singapore Companies Act.
Nevertheless, being a nominee director does not implicate that the same is accountable for the losses and gross negligence of company shareholders and directors [in case a company comprises of more than one director] for the former’s existence is solely to satisfy the statutory requirement.
Asiabizsetup further elaborates saying, “there should also be a minimum of one shareholder and one company secretary, valid local business address, and a minimum share capital not falling below S$50,000 registered as a private limited.”
The entrepreneur’s shareholding of the company must not fall short from 30% either.
After the incorporation, Asiabizsetup shall engage the Ministry of Manpower for the application of Entrepreneur pass, which is also the second step.
Asiabizsetup assures that the company has competent professionals who can assist entrepreneurs draft impressive business proposals as expressed by their clients’ entrepreneurial concepts.
Upon collection of the Entrepreneur pass, Asiabizsetup shall prepare for the final phase of the procedure—the transfer of directorship from a nominee director to the entrepreneur or appointees.

AsiaBiz is a company that provides Singapore company setup services to local and foreign entrepreneurs and investors and offer consultation regarding the immigration and taxation law, Singapore accounting services, book keeping requirements, and other compliance matters stated under the Singapore law. The company has successfully helped thousands of both local and foreign entrepreneurs form a Singapore company.

More than 1,200 entrepreneurs, innovators, business leaders, finance providers and creative professionals from across the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia (MENASA) region and beyond will gather in Dubai for a “Celebration of Entrepreneurship” on November 8-9, 2010. This announcement was made today by Abraaj CapitalAbraaj Capital and Fadi Ghandour, Member of the AbraajAbraaj Board of Directors and Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Aramex. The Celebration is aimed at creating an enabling environment for entrepreneurship by empowering, inspiring and connecting entrepreneurs, who are catalysts for the growth of small and medium enterprise across MENASA.

The SME sector currently accounts for more than 70 per cent of the region’s employment but generates less than 30 per cent of its GDP, thus offering significant growth opportunities. The event is expected to cultivate the existing spirit of enterprise by energising entrepreneurs at the grassroots and creating an environment that is conducive for a thriving entrepreneurial culture – deemed essential to address the region’s employment and demographic challenges.

A number of announcements are expected to be made at the Celebration, including the formal launch of Riyada Enterprise Development (RED), a US$500 million investment platform exclusively dedicated to supporting SMEs across the region.
The Celebration of Entrepreneurship will take place on November 8-9, 2010, at the Madinat Jumeirah Conference Centre in Dubai, UAE.

To support SMEs ready to do business abroad, the Network extends its reach to Asia, with additional contact points in China and more planned in Japan. There are huge opportunities for SMEs in large trading partners like China and South Korea, and the Enterprise Europe Network can help smooth the way. We will bolster the process to promote SMEs with an update of the Small Business Act by the end of 2010 which will provide efficient support for entrepreneurs to launch their personal success story.”

opportunity to acquire knowledge on the socio-economic roles played by women as entrepreneurs in the region

description and analysis of the issue in countries at different stages of economic development and with different socio-economic and cultural environment

a broad approach encompassing historical, political, sociological, economics and businesses-related aspects of female entrepreneurship

a complex and contrasted portrait of female entrepreneurs, their motives to be an entrepreneur, their desires for risk-taking and self- satisfaction

an explanation that while sharing similar ideals, expectations and willingness to achieving their objectives, there exist profound differences among but also within the different Asian countries in regard of female entrepreneurship characteristics

The signing of Hong Kong, China – New Zealand Closer Economic Partnership Agreement in March this year encourages bilateral trade and economic relations to a higher level. With its mandate to facilitate global trade, Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) supports this through its world-class exhibition portfolio, assisting foreign companies interested in expanding their business or in consolidating their position in the Asia Pacific region.

Mr Benjamin Chau, Deputy Executive Director of HKTDC, is visiting New Zealand and Australia to highlight Hong Kong’s advantages and the importance of HKTDC services. He will meet with government and trade sector entities to discuss areas of business co-operation to maximise trade potential and establish closer trade ties between New Zealand and Hong Kong.

Hong Kong’s unrivalled advantages

Hong Kong and New Zealand have forged even closer bonds this year. Hong Kong, China – New Zealand Closer Economic Partnership Agreement provides a total elimination of tariffs on all Hong Kong’s exports to New Zealand in the coming six years, whilst Hong Kong offers tariff free treatment to all New Zealand originating products when the agreement comes into force in late 2010.

The total trade value between Hong Kong and New Zealand increased 14% to US$454 million (NZ$626 million) in the first half of 2010. ‘We believe the agreement opens up new business opportunities and will further boost bilateral trade volume in the years ahead. It also enables New Zealand companies to use Hong Kong as a stepping stone to explore market opportunities in the Chinese mainland’. Mr Chau told at a media briefing.

Hong Kong has unparalleled geographical, economic and political advantages for doing business, making it the world’s freest economy for 16 consecutive years and the second largest foreign direct investment (FDI) recipient in Asia and the 4th largest FDI recipient in the world.

Hong Kong is the most important entrepot of the Chinese mainland. Under the agreement, the free flow of goods between Hong Kong and New Zealand enables New Zealand businesses to capitalise on market opportunities in the Chinese mainland. In the first half of 2010, the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the Chinese mainland grew to 11.1%.

Hong Kong’s advantages make it extremely attractive to New Zealand companies. The number of New Zealand exhibitors to HKTDC fairs increased 150% in the past 3 years.

Ideal trading platforms to illustrate the best part of New Zealand

Agriculture is the main export industry of New Zealand and main export items to Hong Kong includes meat, fruits and dairy products, in addition to its booming wine exports. In the first half of 2010, New Zealand exported wine worth of US$3 million (NZ$4 million) to Hong Kong, up 51% from same period last year. After the wine tax was abolished in 2008, Hong Kong emerged as a major wine trading hub and HKTDC Hong Kong International Wine & Spirits Fair (4-6 November) is the ideal trading platform for New Zealand wines and spirits.

“Hong Kong, the only region in the world with no VAT and no wine tax, poses huge benefits to New Zealand wines. 40 New Zealand winemakers joined the Wine Fair in 2009, with a 4-fold increase from 2008, reflecting their strong interest in our Wine Fair,” Mr Chau said.

New Zealand also has a long history of sheep farming. It is the second largest producer of wool after Australia and the largest producer of strong wool. HKTDC Hong Kong Fashion Week for Fall/Winter (17-20 January 2011) and HKTDC Hong Kong International Home Textiles Fair (20-23 April 2011) are ideal platforms for New Zealand wool companies as the fairs’ scale and international buyer profile give worldwide marketing, branding and trading opportunities.

The medical device market is booming as the world’s population ages. In New Zealand, the medical technology sector is emerging strongly with around 100 enterprises in this sector. HKTDC Hong Kong International Medical Devices and Supplies Fair (3-5 November) is a recognised trade platform dedicated to this niche market, allowing New Zealand to promote products and innovations to an international audience.

To encourage trade development in a wide range of sectors, HKTDC trade fairs cover industries which are well-established or which have growth potential, including toys, jewellery, houseware, gifts, eyewear and eco products.

“Supported by quality international exhibitors and buyers, our fairs present golden opportunities for New Zealand traders to gain the latest market intelligence and, most important of all, make alliances and develop business in Asia and beyond,” Mr Chau concluded.

MoneyTree, together with its corporate partners, will be organizing the “Young Entrepreneur Start-Up (YES 2) Challenge Red Carpet” party on Friday, 6th August 2010 at the Grand Dorsett Hotel, Subang.

This “Academy Award” styled party which will happen from 7.30pm to 10.30pm would see an estimated 250 people comprising members of the YES Advisory Panel, Partners, sponsors, members of the Media and youths from different Universities and Colleges joining this celebration of Entrepreneurship.

The “YES 2 Red Carpet” party serves to recognize and celebrate the commendable efforts, commitment, dedication and success of the YES teams along the journey of the YES 2 challenge. The highlight of the party will be the crowning of the YES 2 Challenge Grand Prize winner, who will walk away with RM 20,000 in cash and prizes.

The Red Carpet event is also a recognition night for the YES 2 teams, as they have chosen the path less travelled and persisted in their pursuit in becoming Youth Entrepreneurs, who would serve as role models for the next generation of youths.

The teams that went through a gruesome process of shortlisting and elimination (from a total of 40 teams) to reach the TOP 5 spots are:

Cup Chatter, Greenergy, SYCo, Dreamzland, and Voila!

Mr. UV Wong, Director of MoneyTree and Organizing Chairman of the YES Challenge stated, “The YES Challenge has evolved over the past year as we strive to make YES a platform to not only allow young aspiring Entrepreneurs to acquire the skills, knowledge and experience in Entrepreneurship, but also as a platform for commercialization of ideas. In fact, we are proud to announce that we recently commercialized and launched MOB, Mainstream Online Buzz, a Social Media Marketing Agency that was the result of the YES Challenge. The August 6th Party will be a celebration of the success of the YES 2 teams, as we look forward to helping more Young Aspiring Entrepreneurs commercialize their ideas and turn their dreams into reality.”

While the YES 2 Red Carpet Party marks the end of season 2 of YES, it also marks the beginning of the teams’ journey into the world of Entrepreneurship.

The YES 2 Challenge Red Carpet party is sponsored by Maybank, Malaysia’s Premier bank & CPA Australia.

The YES challenge is a business challenge organized by MoneyTree to help Young, Vibrant Entrepreneur Aspirants launch their business ideas into the market and ultimately turn those ideas into profitable ventures. The challenge not only allows young Entrepreneurs / aspiring Entrepreneurs to learn skills that would sharpen their Entrepreneurial mindsets, but to also provide them with the opportunity to experience the practical applications of the Entrepreneurial skills they acquired through the MoneyTree Entrepreneur Fast Track program. Ultimately, YES teams who have proven their worth would be channelled to government pre-seed grants for full commercialization of their ideas.

The Asia LNG Summit is jointly convened by Global Leaders Institute and China Petroleum and Petrochemical Engineering Institute, which is the only event supported by the top three oil companies in China — CNOOC, CNPC and Sinopec.

This Summit is a premier conference that gathers the decision makers of LNG buyers, sellers, traders, LNG shipping companies, technology providers and investors to be in one room to discuss about LNG future trends, business opportunities and technical issues that are critical to the development of the LNG market in the Asia Pacific region.

In the Asia region, the old LNG consumption pattern which is led by Japan and Korea is changing obviously due to the rapid development of the LNG market in China and India, etc. Asian buyers show much concern towards how to secure the LNG supply for their own country. In 2009, global gas consumption declined for the first time in the past decade and the price of gas in the key markets in Europe, South-America and Asia-Pacific sharply dropped. However, the consumption in Asia is still increasing.

Youth Business Sri Lanka programme is the country wide expansion of the Hambantota Youth Business Trust (HYBT) which has been in operation over last 10 years. Implemented in 32 countries and modeled after the Youth Business International of UK, youth business programmes supports youth to start a business. The objective of YBSL is to address socio-economic exclusion of youth from disadvantaged backgrounds through provision of financial support to “disadvantaged youth” who has a viable business idea, to start up such enterprises and to provide business support through the existing institutional frameworks and specifically through a business mentor.

CCC BuildingSecretariat and Board of Trustees: Led by the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce (CCC) and the Hambantota District Chamber of Commerce (HDCC), a national expansion strategy for YBSL was initiated in 2007 after extensive consultations with potential stakeholders, and a national board of trustees was set up. The YBSL National Secretariat is established at Ceylon Chamber of Commerce premises.

Today “ Investing in Youth” has become more important under the present context and YBSL seeks every support from the corporate sector in this regard. YBSL has a programme, a mechanism, administrative structure and responsible custodianship of Board of Trustees backed by the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce. It also takes the lessons and the experiences of successfully piloted Hambantota Youth Business Programme which has created over 400 youth entrepreneurs to date.

YBSL can support regional youth not only by means of financing but also by providing them guidance through mentoring. YBSL at present are being supported by few donors and we expect more assistance in the future. Your outreach programmes and CSR initiatives may have common interests same as the YBSL. By working together the programme outputs could be delivered better, with effective utilization of resources; which is mutually beneficial.
