Blogging advices from Internet Entrepreneur Tyler Cruz

Posted on October 2, 2007

After reviewing Tyler Cruz blog some time ago, I’ve got an un-expected reply from Tyler with some very nice advices on how I could improve Small Business Entrepreneur blog.

I will take them one by one, and add my point of view on them:

  • 1. Read my You’re Not a Rock Star post. After reading the first 2 lines I was sure Tyler tries to tell me how “inexperienced” I am, but getting passed the initial frustration, I discovered the article is very good on saying “ads on blogs are annoying”, especially if you are a beginner. I have to agree that it makes no sense put annoyance on the blog if you are to make 0.14 a day. I took Google Adsense out - but please, please let me play around with other advertising techniques to see how they go.
  • Consider getting a new blog theme or else improve on your current one with some custom graphics and personality.. That’s right on target. I completely suck at designs…
  • Get back to posting, preferably once a day (it seems the blog was abandoned on Sept 12th. Daily postings are indeed very important if you want to have a good blog. But my perspective it’s a little different: the blog should support my business and not be a business by itself. I always have to keep a balance between doing the actual work that is paying the bills and the customers happy and blogging. So should I blog today or put some more work on that contract?
  • Add images to posts. Great. I just made a Review on Free stock photos on my other blog, so I just need to start doing it.
  • Consider getting a separate domain for your blog, something easy to remember, themed, and catchy. Not everybody bookmarks pages, and http://www.energybyte.com/blogs/index.php is hard to remember. You are absolutelly right. But then again, www.energybyte.com is my business site.

While as you can see I might agree or not on all the points above because of my specific case, at a general level, Tyler Cruz suggestions should be gems of wisdom for professional bloggers wannabes. So thank you again Tyler - it was un-expected and welcomed!
